Scenes From The Hong Kong Protest Against Extradition Bill

A proposed extradition bill will allow Hong Kong to extradite accused fugitives to mainland China and Taiwan, causing great outcry among Hong Kong citizens whom many see as a breach on the “one country, two systems” principle established by Deng Xiaoping in the 1980s. Massive protests have been ongoing around the Central and Admiralty area of Hong Kong as protesters hope to have the bill withdrawn.

Volunteers and protesters hand out masks and goggles before going out onto the streets. The use of tear gas and pepper spray by the riot police to disperse fervent crowds have become a common occurrence during the protests.

Barricades like these which are made by protesters to hinder riot police movement take roughly 15 minutes to make, and no more than a minute for them to dismantle by sheer brute force.

Learning from their easily broken barricades during the day, protesters have built a further reinforced barricade with geometrically fitted metal railings.
